Let’s Talk About Arches, Arbors and Trellises
Let’s talk a little bit about Arches, Arbors and Trellises for your wedding day!
We know designing your floral display for your wedding day is a B I G to do on your list. We are here to help! ;)
Make sure your flowers portray your style and your vision for your day. When deciding on which direction to go with your ceremony florals it is important to make sure they “flow” well with your wedding style. Making sure the colors, the types of flowers and the shapes match your wedding bouquet and other flowers throughout the event are essential. If your wedding is a simple wedding with smaller classier arrangements, then continue that style into your ceremony florals as well. Keeping your style the same throughout your event is key in making it an aesthetically pleasing for photos, guests and making your vision come true!
Once you have decided on your style, color and shape of your arch piece it can be hard in communicating that with your florist. We are here to help you understand how typical arch pieces are created so you can better communicate just what you are looking for! ;) When creating arch pieces we create them in a foam cage. This foam cage is approximately 12” long. It is an Oasis wet foam cage that is encompassed in a plastic “cage” to keep all foam and flowers secure. This allows the florals to continue to get their water and plant food for the day to ensure they are still a stunning display well into the afternoon! When we create these pieces, we use one cage to create 20”-24” in length of florals and greens. We put most of your greens behind the cage and directly attach them to the arch. We then put the florals with additional greens into the foam and attach it to the arch last. When creating arch displays we can use multiple cages to create pieces that cover corners, edges and even the entire arch! Now, there are some exceptions to this “cage” rule. Sometimes we are asked to create very large pieces or free-standing pieces. To do this, we use a completely different process that is a bit more difficult and a little less common. Talk to your florist about which option fits your style and vision best!
Reuse, reuse, reuse. I cannot say this enough and I HIGHLY encourage all of our brides to reuse all of their pieces as much as possible, especially ceremony pieces. The ceremony is the MOST IMPORTANT part of the day, but it is the shortest. It will also be the backdrop for most of your photos during your wedding and after. So it is a MAJOR focal point. However, my biggest advice to brides is to reuse as much as possible and your arch pieces should be no exception. After your ceremony and photos are done there is usually a period of time where you and your guests transition to the reception. Guest are normally entertained with a cocktail hour while you sneak away for those precious photos. During this time, I suggest that you have a coordinator, a friend or a family member take down your arch pieces (I know, it seems sooooo scary, but I promise it isn’t!) These are easily removed and moved to your reception. They can be placed on your head table, fireplaces, or any other area that may need a pop of florals during your reception!
